Where to store my furniture before travelling

If you’re going on a long trip and giving up your apartment, you might be wondering where to store your furniture. There are a few options for long-term storage, so let’s take a look!

Storage Unit

The most effective place to store your furniture is probably a storage unit. They provide large units that people can securely lock away their belongings, and most have rates that vary depending on the length of time that you will be gone for. If this interests you, get in contact with a storage unit such as Safestore. This is an excellent solution for people who don’t want to leave their family with all their furniture, or who have nobody nearby to look after their furniture and don’t want to get rid of it.

Family House

Some lucky people may have family with spare space and who are willing to store all of their furniture. This is probably only applicable if you’re moving out of a small flat and have family with a large shed or attic for storage! If you’re planning on doing this, it’s best to pack up your belongings as small as possible.

Sell it

Another option, although not for everybody, is to sell it. You can use Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay to sell your furniture – and then the same tools to buy furniture back when you’re back from your trip! There are also some charity shops that accept furniture donations, so this could be another solution.

The disadvantage of doing this is obviously the cost of re-purchasing things – which can be quite frustrating if you already had good things in the first place! You also may find that you need to end up selling things with sentimental value, that you won’t be able to repurchase.

Rent out your home on a furnished basis

Another solution, if you are keeping your home, is to rent it out on a furnished basis. You can work with a letting company who will act as the go-between for you and the tenants, or you could even rent it out on Airbnb, using a company who specialise in Airbnb lettings.

These companies often charge quite a lot, but it will be a per cent off of the money that you are earning by renting the home out in the first place. If you are planning on keeping your own home while travelling, it is a valid method. However, if you are renting or are planning to sell your home, this is obviously not a feasible solution for you!

There are a few places to store your belongings while travelling or other things that you can do with them! The best solution depends on your own personal situation, but storage companies offer excellent and flexible rates, so it is well worth getting in touch to get a quote.
