The last time I had been on a cruise, I was in middle school. After getting married, for many years I had been telling my husband how exciting and fun it would be to cruise to Australia and spend a week or two there while on vacation. Finally, a couple of months ago, my husband surprised me by telling me that we were taking a cruise trip to Australia to celebrate our anniversary. This is how we departed on our vacation and embarked our sea princess cruise.
Romantic Anniversary On A Cruise Ship
The cruise ship we embarked was huge and luxurious. We had departed from New York City and we even took a shore excursion to a private-island stop on our way to Australia. We enjoyed a kayak adventure and later we just went to the beach because it was getting really hot. On the cruise, breakfast was delivered right on our bed, we were able to soak in a hot tub, and we even tasted caviar and champagne for our anniversary dinner. All in all, I had so much fun on our sea princess cruise that I am already wishing we could go again some time.
The moment we disembarked our cruise and stepped foot on Australian soil, there were just two things on our mind, try a diverse range of Australian food and see as much as we could.
The Best Restaurants We Dined At In Australia
If we could, we would probably have dined at every restaurant. Of course, we did not, but here are some of the best ones we did dine at. We enjoyed having authentic pastries, granitas and coffee in the mini-Roman empire-ish Brunetti and we quite pleased with the toasted tremezzini. We certainly could not miss dining at a beachfront location in an outdoor café so we had some salad and wraps while wallowing in the scenic ocean views. We even tried to learn kitesurfing there. Spice I Am, is the unique yet unusual Thai restaurant. We actually had to wait in a queue until we managed to get a seat inside. Their menu had more than 70 dishes and it was a bit tricky to choose. Finally, we decide to try a few fragrant and spicy Thai dishes that left our taste buds tantalized.
Top Places We Visited And Things We Did In Australia
Kangaroo Island: instead of eschew the usual Aussie destinations; we decide to head for a less-visited island. Just north of Adelaide, we Kangaroo Island. After finding a spot, we spent the rest of the day on the beach and sampled scrumptious local produce. We decided not to crash at the Southern Ocean Lodge since it was rather pricey.

The Museum of Old & New Art (MONA): I’ve been a huge fan of museums since I was a little girl. MONA had opened up back in 2011 and so we paid a visit. The sizes of the artistic masterpieces and their million dollars worth of value are the museum’s claim to fame, and we were left in awe.

Newcastle: We had heard a lot about how Newcastle was one of the top ten cities to visit in Australia and so we decided to see what all the fuss was about. At first, we had troubled finding something that would really amaze us until we made friends with locals, who unlocked the secrets of the city. We paid a visit to local watering holes that we a favorite among the locals and even found local gigs as well. Stockton Beach, in particular, was a great discovery and we even jumped into the Bogey Hole ocean baths.
Snowy Mountains: The only reason we went up the Snowy Mountains was because I wanted to see the wild horses at the Snowy Wilderness sanctuary. They are quite majestic creatures and even though we were not allowed to ride them, observing them was an enjoyable experience.

If Australia did not have such remarkable attractions, I would have preferred to stay on the cruise ship. However, I must say that I am really glad today that we spent our anniversary on a luxury cruise and our vacation.
