Lanzarote Living!

Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, nestled within the Canary Islands, around 100 kilometres off the African coast, lies an island that’s serene in nature but volcanic in origin. Welcome to Lanzarote, where gentle climate, pristine beaches, and amazing tourist spots come together to make an ideal holiday spot all year through for you!

From visiting beaches and tourist attractions to attending local festivals, Lanzarote is your family destination without a doubt.

Even though Lanzarote is a volcanic island, it has several white beaches.  Famara Beach is a virgin beach strip ideal for surfers with risky undercurrents situated close to the Sports Village of La Santa Famara. If you’re looking for a safe and secure beach, then the man made beach in Playa Blanca, the southern tip of Lanzarote,  is where you and your family should go. White sand and lava stones make up the natural Playa Bastian, a romantic getaway for lovers in calm waters.

If you don’t  fancy beaches, then there’s  lots to do in the town of Puerto del Carmen. The casinos, and discos where you can dance away till the wee hours of dawn, make the island’s nightlife so exhilarating.  There is also an eclectic mix of handicraft stalls, jewellery shops, street brands and gift shops to pick up a souvenir from.  Supermarkets and Hypermarkets are available in plenty in the main tourist areas.

For those who prefer a really active vacation, there’s a list of activities to keep your pulse racing. Golf, diving, Karting, tennis, surfing and even horse riding ensure that you remain in constant motion! So why not call on your friends or family for some friendly competition? If you’re looking for some aggressive flavour, then head straight to the capital to watch Lanzarote’s traditional wrestling matches.

For a more natural feel, you don’t want to miss out the Cuevas De Los Verdes and Jameos del Agua,  a spectacular gallery of grottos located near the resident volcano. The National Park of Timanfaya offers you a splendid view of the volcanic craters too. Else you can hop on a boat to experience the hustle and bustle in the fishing village of Corralejo.

Now you’re thinking, so what can the kids do?  Plenty of course!  The Rancho Texas is a very famous theme park housing a petting zoo, animals from around the world and bird shows. But at night, the ranch changes into a family recreation night with a cowboy and Indian theme, lasso show, live music and all you can eat BBQ. Children can also head out to the Aqua Park and Crazy Golf Courses for the water rides and other amusements.

The people of Lanzarote take great pride in their cuisine or the ‘Cocina Canaria’ (The Canarian Kitchen). These traditional recipes have been handed down for centuries. So if you are served some Gofio for breakfast, then bear in mind that it is a typical Canarian dish made from ground corn mixed with milk, salt and eggs. Very healthy and nutritious mind you. The staple produce however, comes from the sea.

The festival calendar of Lanzarote is marked all year through with carnivals, parades, catholic weeks, marathons and the National Day festivities. Needless to mention New Years Eve celebrations among fireworks and fanfare. Not a single month passes by without some event or the other. So you definitely cannot miss anything.

Spanish is the native language and the currency is Euro. The capital city Arrefice boasts a five-star hotel, the Arrefice Grand Hotel, which you can see miles away from the coastline.
