Your bags are packed, the cars ready to go and the house keys have been deposited with your neighbour for safe keeping. This must mean one thing its time to head to the airport and fly away for a nice relaxing holiday.
After the excitement of the drive climaxes with your arrival at the airport it’s time to park, which can be tricky wherever you are. Whether you’re trying to park the car in London, Bristol, and Cardiff or if you’re having difficulty with car parking East Midlands airport, it can feel a bit anti-climactic, but once it’s done its time to grab a baggage cart and head to the check in desk.
Waiting
Then it’s time to head to the departures lounge, which can get a little boring at times, after all there’s only so many times you can go and look at the planes. If you aren’t there long then you can probably just get away with perusing the random little shops and having a coffee or something a little stronger while you wait, and if you have children there’ll probably be a children’s area to keep them busy.
But if you happen to be hit by the dreaded delay then it’ll take more than a few laps around a shop, which sells everything from handbags to label makers, to keep you entertained. Children can usually be satisfied with a game from said shop, a look at the planes or a run around the play area, but for the adults the only viable entertainment option appears to be the bar. But as this can end badly there are a few simple things you can do to keep your spirit alive.
People watching and eavesdropping
Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that entertain you most. People watching is a great way to keep you occupied by seeing how others cope with the delay, and with eavesdropping you and a friend or partner can play a little game to see who can hear the most random conversation. Simple, effective and cheap.
Caught on camera
Take people watching one step further by taking incriminating photos of people whilst eating, sneezing, talking and so on. The fun here is you get a random and often funny photo; just don’t get caught.
Mini flash mob
Entertain yourself and start a flash mob, by yourself or with a friend. It may look bizarre and maybe no one else will join in, but it’ll lighten the atmosphere and give you a few minutes of fun.
Who was that?
This one’s a bit pricier but provides plenty of fun. Whilst perusing the random shops, look for a fart machine and set it off as people walk past. The looks on their faces alone will be enough to keep you giggling for hours.
