Holidaying in Spain – the natural attractions

What do you think of when you think of Spain? Some may think of the bustling cities but most will instantly dream of long endless beaches, open countryside, beautiful hills and scenic vistas.

In short, Spain is all about open fresh air. As such, villas in Spain are the only true way to experience a holiday in this wonderful part of Southern Europe and here is what you can expect to find.

Countryside

A quick look at a map will reveal that Spain is rather big – five times bigger than the UK in fact! It also occupies the majority (85%) of the territory which makes up Iberian Peninsula, meaning that there’s plenty of opportunity to glimpse natural attractions.

Despite its large size, Spain has a relatively low population density and this means that there are plenty of open spaces for you to explore. Despite being larger than the UK, Spain’s population is only equivalent to two thirds of our own so you can imagine just how much open space this leave you to work with!

There’s a huge expanse of warm, tropical countryside available, with temperatures and scenic views to rival the Mediterranean. As a result, you have plenty of countryside and a wide variety of landscapes found within the one country.

In fact, Spain is said to have one of the most diverse landscapes and climates in the entire European continent. Almeria in the South East can be likened to a desert in some places while a winter spent in the North West would deliver rainfall on 20 days of each month! Andalucia, also in the South, is known for its rolling hills and quaint, traditional towns which make it a popular holiday destination with a beautiful, mild climate.

Coastlines

Spain is unique among most European countries – save for more distant locations such as Italy – in that it has quite a lot of countryside only being bordered by Portugal on the West and France through a slither of the Pyrenees.

Honestly, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. The Costa Blanca, Costa Calida, Costa del Sol, Costa Brava or Costa Dorada would all be suitable locations with only personal preference really making a difference over which is best.

Spain is known for beautiful waters and long sandy shores, regardless of where you happen to be along its coast. Of course, it should be noted that the warmer weather and longer summers are found along the southern shore, close to the equator but with 8,000km of beaches to choose from you’re sure to find the perfect spot somewhere!
