Festivals Abroad: Survival Guide

If you’re lucky enough to be heading to festival abroad this summer, then just stop a second. There are few things you need to know. Before you run out the door, passport in one hand, shades in other, you need to check that you’ve packed all essentials. Let’s face it, the contents of your case can make or break a holiday. Forget that one thing, and that’s it. Game over. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration. But these are the things we believe you need for the perfect festival experience.

No clothes

OK that’s a little misleading. What we mean is, very few clothes. The beauty of most festivals abroad is that they’re probably going to be hot, hot, hot. Forget about the muddy wellies and waterproofs you donned at last year’s Leeds Fest. This time around it’s all about shorts, sandals and bikinis. That’s right ladies, don’t worry about buying a whole new wardrobe, just concentrate on finding some stylish swimwear. Maybe a high waisted number, or a strapless bandeau bikini? The choice is yours!

Bum bag

Whilst festivals are all about having a wonderful time, the truth is, you need to be extra careful with your personal belongings. You’re thousands of miles away from home; if your passport does a disappearing act, you’re going to be in trouble! So our advice is, invest in a bum bag. This way you’ll have all your cash and ID right where you can see it and away from those pesky thieves.

Cheap phone

There’s nothing more heart-breaking than losing a phone you love (especially an expensive one!) So don’t take the risk. You can buy mobile phones as cheap as a tenner these days; a worthy purchase when you consider how much money you’d lose if your smartphone went missing. And this way, you can keep your parents updated with your whereabouts too. Everyone’s happy!

Hand sanitiser

Although your festival abroad might not be ridiculously muddy, hand sanitiser always turns out to be a god-send.  As you can probably imagine, festival living isn’t a five star hotel experience; it’s going to get messy. But that’s all a part of the fun! Just take some hand sanitiser, a packet of baby wipes, and you’ll be fine.

Phrase book

We’re sorry to break this to you, but not everyone in the world speaks English… What? You cry, what am I going to do? Well, there’s only one thing for it; it’s time to get cultured! Get online or to your local book store, and buy yourself a pocket sized phrase book. You can thank us later.
