Why a cruise could be the cure for holiday blues

If you can’t decide how best to make the most of your limited holiday budget – and many of us have less than we thought – then why not consider a cruise? Okay, you probably think they’re just for old people, with cabaret acts, bland food and shuffleboard on the deck – but the truth is actually much different.

They’re not for everyone, but here we’ll draw your attention to some of the benefits that cruise holidays have over other kinds of holiday breaks, so have a look through and see if we can’t dispel some of the myths you may have over cruises!

Sightseeing made easy

For many people, the idea of just unpacking in one place and spending two weeks there seems boring, yet seeing many different places on one trip brings with it the hassle of packing and unpacking time and time again, always feeling like you’re on the move and not relaxing. With a cruise you get the best of both worlds. There are regular stop-off points as the ship tours an area, yet you can unpack in your own room and feel at home in your ‘floating hotel’.

For example, look at this cruise offering from MSC: you get to see the delights of the Bahamas, Barbados and Jamaica all on one trip!

Stress-free booking

The growth of the DIY holiday using cheap flights and hotel bookings via the web has made it easier for individuals to put together their own itineraries and see the places they want to see on their trip. However, linking all the bookings can take a lot of time and be quote stressful. With a cruise however, much of your sightseeing is planned out for you. You just make one booking and one payment – which may well be cheaper than a series of individual bookings combined – and once you go ashore you still have the freedom to do the things you want to do, should you wish to avoid the group excursions. The choice is yours.

Cruises are not all the same

Modern cruise ships are very different to the ones you may have an image of in your mind – they in fact offer great options for all kinds of travellers. Luxury cruise liners feature everything from spas and cinemas to rock climbing and yoga classes, while the food is a world away from the stereotypical bland buffets you might expect. Most ships have a number of high-class restaurants serving a wide variety of different cuisines, and you get the option to try out some of the local delicacies when you go ashore – far from a boring menu.

Taking a cruise could even involve going aboard a smaller vessel with fewer people and more peace and quiet, or perhaps take a trip back in time by taking to the waves on a tall ship.
