Hiking is one of those special activities that allows you to see so many amazing parts of the world and accomplish some of the most physically demanding challenges on the globe. We thought that we’d help all you adventure-loving hikers out with a guide to our 9 bucket list hikes for adventure junkies.

 

  • Besseggen Ridge, Norway

 

Besseggen Ridge is simply one of the best hikes in all of Europe. It’s probably Norway’s most famous mountain and includes adrenaline-filled parts of the hike. At some points, you are staring down into glaciers and bright blue glacial lakes. It is simply thrilling.

You’ll never forget how the views from Besseggen made you feel.

 

  • Lion’s Head, South Africa

 

The beautiful country of South Africa is home to Lion’s Head in Cape Town. This hike is Cape Town’s finest, and includes a steep ascent which gives hikers a real taste of the adventure South Africa has to offer.

Lion’s Head is eight miles long and offers the most stunning views of the city you’ve ever seen. And for those who love adventure, you’ve got the added bonus of having to climb ladders and manoeuvre up a series of chains. You’ll love this one!

 

  • Mount Toubkal, Morocco

 

Morocco is home to the Atlas Mountains, one of the most impressive mountain ranges in the world. Mount Toubkal is the largest mountain in all of the Atlas, West Africa and the Arab world. Simply stunning and located near the cultural capital of Marrakesh, Toubkal offers you one of the best hikes of your life.

A sense of adventure comes if you hike during the winter, where there’s an element of challenge and expertise needed. However, climbing in the summer is still an adventure too, and you can get some stunning photos from the top.

 

  • Mount Huashan, China

 

Mount Huashan in China is one of the scariest hikes for adventure junkies out there. The whole hike is a series of ladders, chains and boardwalks which just hang in the air terrifyingly.

It is a very dangerous hike as you are thousands of feet in the air, but it’s so incredible as an experience you kind of want to try it anyway.

 

  • Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

 

This bucket list would never be complete without a good old classic mountain hike involved. Mount Kilimanjaro – also known as the ‘roof of Africa’ – can be said to be the ultimate hike for adventure junkies.

Right in the heart of the beautiful Tanzania and all of its stunning wildlife, hiking Kilimanjaro is a challenge, but one that is so truly worth it when you reach the summit.

 

  • Snowman Trek, Bhutan

 

The serious adventure junkies among you may want to check out Bhutan’s Snowman Trek. It is indeed one of the most challenging in the world as you encounter eleven passes along the Tibet and Bhutan border.

It is so wildly remote and special, you will adore it all.

 

  • Half Dome, Yosemite

 

Yosemite is one of the most amazing places on Earth and a total credit to America. The Half Dome hike is also one of the best in all of the states. It takes a lot of work (even if it is only a one-day hike), but it’s worth it to stand at the top of one of Yosemite’s most iconic features.

On your way to the top, you can view Nevada Falls, Liberty Cap and the High Sierra. Just wow!

 

  • Everest Base Camp, Nepal

 

So, we won’t put the whole of Everest on this list, though if you are an adventure junkie with serious longing for a true test of your hiking skills, go for it.

There are treks to the base camp of Everest, and they are challenging and fulfilling too. Crossing some of the most stunning parts of nature and making it to the heavily-flagged base camp is one big tick off on the bucket list, right?

 

  • Chadar Trek, India

 

India is one of the most diverse places on the planet, and its Chadar Trek in the region of Ladakh is no exception. Hiking across ice and snow and seeing some of the most isolated places in India is an experience not many people ever have. We think its worth all the cold, just Google it and you’ll see why.
