Why you must obey these signs at the airport

Heading to the airport for work or pleasure is almost like a marathon. With so much to organise and so many stages you need to get through even before you get to the plane, it’s no wonder passengers get frustrated and emotions begin to run high. 

You’d be amazed at how many people try to cut corners whilst they’re making their way through the airport, from people who try to trick security to those who make the unfortunate decision to ignore danger signs. I think it’s safe to say that those people didn’t make their flight…

Airports can be confusing, which is why there is plenty of signage to help you get to where you need to be as quickly as possible. Following this signage is pretty crucial. Read on for why you must obey the following signs at the airport.

Pre-security prep signs

When you’re preparing to travel, you need to pass through security. In order to do this successfully, you’ll need to have excluded certain items from your luggage and your person. Many airports have a pre-security area where you can go through your luggage before you head to security and remove anything that shouldn’t be there. 

There are a selection of visual signs that will serve as reminders as to what you can and cannot take through. These are usually in a traffic light system:

• Red = Forbidden. These items, including liquids over 100ml and blades over 6cm are not permitted under any circumstances. 
• Amber = Caution: Be prepared to show these for an inspection. These include things like baby milks and medicines (you’ll need a prescription or a letter from your Dr to confirm these are legitimate) 
• Green = Permitted. These are allowed to pass through security and onto the plane. These include liquids that don’t exceed 100ml and are presented in a clear plastic bag, ready for inspection. 

If you don’t obey these signs at the airport, then you simply won’t be allowed to pass through security, and you will not be able to travel. It’s always worth doing plenty of research and preparation before you head to the airport.

Wet floor signs

It sounds a little pedantic, but we’ve all had to run through the airport at one point because we’ve suddenly noticed we’re going to miss our flight if we don’t hurry! Keep an eye out for things like Wet Floor signs or signs telling you to be wary of airport buggies that may be moving in the area. If you ignore them, then you could be spending the most part of your holiday in hospital! 

Authorized personnel only signs

The airport can be a confusing place and it’s often quite stressful if you’re running late. Be you should still be wary of signs that apply to you and your safety. Going through a door that reads Authorised personnel only is a sure fire way to get you in heaps of trouble with airport security. Don’t ignore it.
