Lists of must-see sights or must-do activities to be ticked off in one’s lifetime, affectionately known as ‘bucket lists’, are becoming increasingly popular, especially among those people who have been bitten by the travelling bug and are determined to make every vacation an adventure.

The world is a big place and while making lists can seem counter-intuitive to someone who just wants to go out there and experience it, doing so is the best way of making sure that you get to see and do everything you want to and be confident that you will be able to look back on your time on this planet as a life well-lived.

The Greatest Winter Sport Locations

Here are just a few locations that should be on the bucket list of any serious winter sports fan.

  • Italy. Get that unique Olympic experience at Pragelato Vialattea, home to the ski jumping and cross country events at the 2006 Turin Olympics. You don’t have to be Olympic standard though as the resort has facilities for skiers of all abilities, as well as loads of opportunities for hiking and Nordic walking.

  • France. With the Alps on your doorstep, you are spoilt for choice here. As well as boasting some truly breathtaking views, L’Alpe d’Huez La Sarenne has the longest black run in Europe, which is surely a high priority experience for any skiing enthusiast.

  • Switzerland. Finally, no winter sports bucket list would be complete without a visit to Switzerland, the spiritual birthplace of Alpine skiing. Switzerland is synonymous with skiing and a culture has sprung up around this, providing unrivalled infrastructure and facilities. Not to mention some pretty unique skiing experiences, such as those in the shade of the majestic Matterhorn in Zermatt.

Being Prepared

The most successful travellers know that preparation is key to everything. It helps make sure that you get the best possible experience from any trip, and allows you to enjoy what you are doing confident that you and your companions are keeping safe.

First of all, research the area and the activity. Find out as much as you possibly can and make a plan. A plan with plenty of scope for spontaneity of course!

Secondly, get the right gear. Certain activities require specific kit. Ski helmets are a pretty essential piece of kit, for example, and investment here will provide good protection for kids and adults while helping to make sure you and the family look and feel good at the same time.

Finally, have a plan for keeping in contact. Make sure you have a way of getting in touch with the right people should you need to get help for any reason.

Experiences to Last a Lifetime

The desire for travel and adventure is built in to so many of us, and we get to satisfy the urges this brings with an increasingly exciting range of travel and sporting opportunities. Doing some research, getting the right gear and having a plan in place, while not necessarily being your first inclination, can help you to get maximum enjoyment from these opportunities and create memories to last a lifetime.
