The Importance of Travel Insurance

You’ve booked your trip, dug out your suitcases and found your passport. Everything’s ready to go and you’re just counting down the days until you get to jet off to sunnier – or wintery – climes. But what about travel insurance? As any savvy traveler knows, booking holiday insurance  is one of the most important parts of going away. It’s right up there with finding a hotel, and it’s much more important than remembering to pack your swimwear.

So, why is travel insurance so important?

It’s actually not a legal requirement, but these days, reputable tour operators and airlines will remind you about booking holiday insurance before you travel, in order to help protect you should things go wrong. Of course, this is the last thing you want to think about when booking a holiday. But that’s exactly why you need to get it all sorted before you go – after all, once it’s done, you can forget about it and hopefully you’ll never need to use it!

For starters, a good level of travel insurance will provide financial cover should your holiday be canceled, curtailed or heavily affected. Quality travel insurance cover will also help you out should you fall ill or sustain an injury and find that you can’t travel. And of course, if the same happens whilst you’re abroad – for instance, you have a skiing injury, or fall ill whilst you’re there and require medical attention – a good level of holiday insurance will ensure your medical bills are paid and you’re suitably compensated for any delays or re-booking procedures.

As you can imagine, travelling without the right insurance cover is certainly not worth the risk, especially given the often low and easily affordable prices associated with travel insurance. So whatever you do, do the sensible thing and arrange the right level of cover before you go – it’s a small price to pay for complete peace of mind.
