Street food has been taking over New York City for the past few years. More and more food trucks are bringing their tasty treats to the streets, making it easy for the fast-paced New Yorkers to grab a bite on the go. This form of fast food makes it easy for tourists to grab something on the go too, and grab something from a local business, instead of having to get “fast food” from another chain restaurant that they can have anywhere. Wafels & Dinges is one of the most popular food trucks in NYC, and while it’s a faster form of dining than you’d get at a restaurant, you can still expect a line outside the window. King of Falagel & Shawarma was voted New York’s #1 Street Vendor in the 2010 Vendys, and The King is at your service every day but Sunday on 30th and Broadway, and they have another location on 53rd and Park as well. Luckily, this is one of the carts you don’t have to track down, they’ve got a reserved spot just for their loyal patrons, and they’re always ready with a lot of food for a very reasonable price. Help yourself to a platter, a Hero, Shish Kebabs or a Freddy’s Junior. It’s all good!
Calexico is another food cart with a reserved spot. Find them on 24th and Broadways for your Mexican fare. Whether you’re here for the burritos, tacos or quesadillas, you’re going to want to get an extra helping of “crack sauce” and then maybe seconds. Many people say this is the best Mexican food they’ve ever had – that’s probably the crack sauce talking.
The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck has nothing but ice cream, so you have still have your sit-down lunch in a fancy restaurant and then head over here for a “Salty Pimp” or maybe end the meal with “Bea Arthur.” Find them in Union Square with outrageously named but insanely delicious ice cream creations.
