Whether you’re packing for a 6-month backpacking trip or a romantic weekend away, the fact is, you’re going to need cosmetics and grooming products, especially if you’re heading out to a climate that your skin and hair isn’t used to. Travelling somewhere hot, cold or humid can cause havoc when it comes to your skin, even a mild temperature change can lead to dry skin, and exposure to the sun can lead to skin damage. If you want to avoid any long lasting damage, it’s really quite important to establish a grooming routine before you go away.

It’s not just the climate either – travelling by plane can leave you with dry skin, and so can losing sleep over changing time zones.

Regardless of all the above points, you don’t want to be packing masses of grooming products, as this can take up a whole lot of space in your case or backpack (and it can lead to all sorts of problems when going through airport security, especially if you need to keep bottles under 100ml).

So let’s start with the skin; there’s a holy trinity when it comes to skincare, and that involves an exfoliator, a moisturiser and a cleanser.

There’s no doubt one of the best skincare brands out there at the moment is Kyoku, so their range at GroomU is one of the first stops you should be making when stocking up on holiday skincare. Look for moisturisers with built in SPF to protect your skin in sunny climates!

Why not purchase some small, clear 100ml bottles from the drugstore, and fill them with a small amount of your Kyoku moisturiser for on-the-go skin hydration? In bottles of this size, you’ll be able to take them on the plane in most places too.

For ladies, the process of packing cosmetics can require a little more thought. Chances are, your beauty routine takes a lot of different products; you might need a foundation, a powder, eyeliner, eye shadow and more. However, if you’re going on a long trip, perhaps backpacking, the major beauty secret is to use Vaseline for almost all your needs. It can be used as a lip balm / gloss, it’s great for adding a subtle glow to skin, and it can be applied sparingly to eyelashes and eyebrows for styling. Try giving your skin a break whilst you’re out in the healthy air, and just use a translucent powder rather than your usual foundation, as this will let your skin breathe in the heat.

A final tip? Forgo your usual conditioner if you’re a woman, and if you’re traveling around the Mediterranean, the Middle-East or Africa, then just purchase some healthy, natural rose or olive oil instead. You can use this in small amounts as a conditioner as long as you wash thoroughly, and you’ll soon have hair like never before. For mens hair, invest in a pot of pomade from GroomU’s American Crew range, and you’ll be able to slick even the messiest bedhead hair into a classy style.
