How do you carry your Knife in the Check-in Luggage?

You can always carry a knife, if the regulations allow you to! But, you can never leave them loose even in the luggage. You will have to pack it in well. Whether you carry the blades, or any other place, you need to pack it well! Here are some tips to store your knife in the check-in luggage.

  1.       You need to start by gathering the following material:

o   Cardboard

o   Scissors/knife

o   Cello tape

o   Newspaper

o   Twine

o   Marker Pens

o   Clothes

  1.       Once you have collected the material, start packing the knife.
  2.       Cut the cardboard box into long strips, but they should be thick enough to cover the whole knife. You should cut it a bit wider than the blade of the knives and longer than the whole knife. This ensures that no part of the knife is peeping out from any of the sides.
  3.       You can even get creative and write a message on the cardboard with the marker pen.
  4.       Next, wrap the two cardboard strips around the whole knife with the help of the cello tape.
  5.       Take some newspaper and wrap around the cello taped cardboard sheath of the knife. Secure it with some twine.
  6.    Finally, take a thick piece of clothing that you have and put the ‘newspaper-cardboard-cello-tape’ wrapped knife in it. It is preferable to use jeans for the purpose; it is anyway a thick piece of cloth. So, the extra baggage will not be clearly visible.
  •  Why do you need to pack the Knives Properly?

Are you confused that why a knife needs to be packed so intricately? Well, it is obvious that you have never gone through any troubles carrying a knife, or maybe you have never carried one! So, we will tell you the two major reasons for the packing. Here they are:

  1.     Whether the blades from UK or any other country’s reputed store, you will obviously have a knife that is razor sharp. Do you really want to cut your fingers? How, you ask? Even if you pack the baggage in a compact way, the baggage handlers will never handle it with care! So, your entire luggage will be disorganized. Your hands can get cut, if the knife is not packed properly. A sheath can come off because of the mishandling! Packing in the knife can reduce the chance of cuts and destroying your entire luggage.
  2. The baggage is handled by the airport staff and baggage theft is a growing concern! This method of packing can be an innovative and smart way to reduce the chances of theft. It is true that the theft can take place even after so many precautions. But, this will definitely reduce the chances.

So, start packing your knives. Do not let somebody else enjoy the perks of your sharp knife! Pack the knife well and continue using it, when you reach your destination (of course, as and when you need it).
