Relationships take work, and dedication to see them through. Relationships face challenges regularly, however they say that the ultimate test of a relationship is to go traveling with your significant other. Traveling with your S.O means romantic meals, beautiful sunsets and memories that will last a lifetime, but it also means putting your relationship to the test.

Spend time apart

Yes. Really. Think about it. When you’re going about your normal daily lives, are you always joined at the hip? You go to work, meet with friends, run errands etc then come back together at the end of the day and realize how much you’ve missed each other. When traveling, you’re around each other 24/7, often in stressful scenarios. Having time apart, even for just a couple of hours a day gives each of you some much needed “you” time. Time to reflect, enjoy your own pursuits and have something to talk about when you meet up again later. If you found a lovely coffee shop on your stroll around the city, make plans to go there tomorrow with your other half!

Remember that fatigue and hunger can cause arguments

When we’re tired and irritable, we’re more likely to snap and have little patience. Sadly, we often take these frustrations out on those we love the most. Whether you’re just jet-lagged or you’re hungover, remember to take a deep breath and try to refrain from your urge to lose control of your emotions. If your partner is tired or grumpy, be mindful of their fragile state. It won’t last forever. 

Communicate 

Continuing from the point above, communicating with your partner about how your feeling can help reduce tension and make your travels much smoother and enjoyable. Feeling sick? Getting really let down by something they did? Don’t sit on these feelings and let them boil over – communicate and always be transparent with your S.O. This applies to your life back home too.

Laugh

Laughter is the best medicine. And when things go wrong, you can either let a bad feeling ruin your entire trip or roll with it and find the funny side. The latter is definitely the better option. Of course, you might not think it’s funny if you missed your flight and now you’re stranded, but you will look back and laugh about these moments. Remember, it’s all part of your adventure together.
