Holiday Activities to Avoid!

We take annual holidays to get away from it all. Whether it’s at home or abroad, we all enjoy taking some time away from work, surrounded by our loved ones, and simply kicking back to relax.

What’s not relaxing though, is suffering from an accident or injury when you’re supposed to be sunning yourself. Experiencing something like a bad fall, food poisoning or general injury is bad enough when you’re in the comfort of familiar surroundings, but when you’re somewhere new, it can be incredibly stressful.

Thankfully, First4Lawyers conducted a survey with more than 1500 people to see just how holidaymakers injure themselves whilst away. Watch out for the following places if you want to avoid an unwanted trip to the hospital!

Nightclub/Restaurant – 3.4%

While 3.4% may not seem like a lot, nightclub and restaurant accidents are surprisingly common. Whether it’s food poisoning from badly prepared seafood or broken glass on a dance floor, accidents can easily happen in these places of decadence, so always ensure you play it safe.

On a cruise ship – 3.4%

Cruise ships are the ultimate holiday for total relaxation – everything is in one place and completely taken care for you. However, when living in such close quarters to hundreds or thousands of other people, accidents easily happen. Stomach bugs and wet decks are something to watch out for here.

In the supermarket – 6.8%

You might not think of a supermarket as a place where accidents can be common, but when you’re on holiday you might not be as careful as at home. Act as you would at home for a safe trip.

In the hotel – 10.3%

The most common accidents in hotels occur because of negligence from the hotel. Balconies, stair cases and bath tubs are sometimes not made safe with railings or mats, so if you spot anything wrong with your room, talk with the hotel staff as soon as you possibly can.

By the poolside – 13.7%

This is the number one spot for accidents and injuries on holiday, which isn’t surprising. Wet floors mixed with flip flops are simply accidents waiting to happen, so always ensure you follow the poolside rules and keep yourself safe!
