Great Reasons to Travel Alone

Traveling alone can be scary and often lonely, but there are many reasons why we all should give it a go at least once. Have you got what it takes to set off on a trip of a lifetime without a friend or loved one to share your experience? If the answer is “yes”, read on to discover why you are making a smart decision.

Make New Friends

It’s great when you travel the world with a partner, but you are less inclined to step outside of your comfort zone when there is always someone by your side. You have a constant companion, someone to share a joke with and carry you home after one too many mojitos.

Traveling alone is a different ball game. The onus is on you to make conversation and friends. This is actually a good thing, as it forces you to be more sociable. You may not like everyone you meet, but you could make some amazing new friends along the way.

Map-of-Europe

How many times have you ended up visiting a place you were not that interested in, simply because your travel companion wanted to go? This happens more than we realize, and on a short vacation, it can cause arguments.

Solo trips allow you to set your own itinerary. If you want to visit an obscure monument or a museum of ancient Mayan artifacts, you can. It’s your trip so tick off all those items on your bucket list.

Build Confidence

Traveling solo is confidence boosting, as it forces you to make decisions. You can’t wait for someone else to take charge when things go wrong. It’s up to you to sort things out. After a while, you will become more assertive and comfortable in your own skin. These are skills you can take back home and use to forge a better career and healthier relationships.

No Dramatics

It isn’t always easy to travel in close proximity with a friend or loved one. We all need our own space and some people are more demanding than others are. Would you rather enjoy a relaxing vacation in your own company or put up with someone else’s histrionics for a week? It’s a no-brainer really.

Logistics

Traveling alone means you can take off at a moment’s notice. If you see a great deal for a last-minute luxury vacation online, you don’t have to wait for a reply from your partner to say, “Yes, let’s do it…”. Instead, you can book it and start packing.

As a solo traveler, you are free to organize a last minute vacation when you have some unexpected downtime in your schedule. You are also free to change your plans if you feel like it.

You don’t need to be an extrovert to enjoy traveling alone. Once you get used to not having a companion by your side, you will find the experience incredibly empowering. Learn to love your own company, enjoy people watching, and remember to take a book with you when you visit restaurants alone.
