The food

Historical places
The island is situated on Hicacos Peninsula, which used to be a tribe of Siboney people. You can see the influence of history in the local art and music. The new part of the island is more modern in its architecture. There is a famous plaza known as de la Vigia in Matanzas, which has all sorts of different recreational activities. If you like fresh air you should visit Yumuri, as well as Bacunayagua valley, because these are surrounded with palm trees and open air. You will also see Bellamar caves in this area, which are not to be missed.
Shopping
During your Varadero holida, you can find shops galore in the hotels and in the city; the town has one famous shopping place in particular known as Caimán. From these shops you can buy clothes, drinks, art and crafts and other gift items. The specialty, of course, is tobacco. Above all, there is also one of the best art galleries, which has a multitude of unique an interesting sculptures and paintings. You can also buy books about music from a special shop for music lovers that sell Salsa and Son music.
Beautiful beaches
Last but by no means least are the famous Varadero beaches, which will wow you with their white sand and deep blue sea; a great view. There are many hotels around the beaches, which make it easier for the tourists to enjoy. Water sports are also plentiful on the beach, such as jet skiing and riding sea bicycles. Fishing tours and different boat trips can be arranged on request. Check out the diving club, Club Barracuda, where diving experts teach novices how to explore the depths of the ocean.
