Overall Experience: |
The frozen yogurt fad started a couple years ago and it looks like it’s here to stay. Recently I’ve been seeing more and more fro-yo (as the cool kids call it) shops popping up, mostly advertising themselves as the guilt free healthier treat alternative to fatty ice cream. The flavors and toppings range from uber healthy (original with fresh fruit) to rich and decadent (cake batter with butterfingers and oreos). The shops themselves are brightly lit, decked out with modern loudly colored furniture and light fixtures. Most of the time it’s self service and pay by weight. Some shops blend the toppings with the yogurt while others leave the heavy mixing to you and your spoon.
Generally I’ve found fro-yo shops to be cheaper than the top of the line ice cream chains (Ben & Jerry’s Hagen Daaz etc), the treats are nicer on the waistline, and I don’t even miss the taste of ice cream. Since this Yogiberry location is only a mile from where we live we have frequented it quite a few times over the year (but always walking there to balance out the calories – only 75 calories in 4 ounces of the original)! My go to combination is always the original frozen yogurt with heath crumbles, almonds and occasionally a touch of granola. Smooth, nutty and with a slight crunch – just how I like it.

Website: Yogiberry
Meal At A Glance:What type of meal was it? Dessert
Itemized Bill: $3.61 pp original with granola, heath and almonds, strawberry with almonds
Quality:
This froyo chain is moderately priced ($0.49 per ounce) with a large variety of flavors (12) and toppings (at least 30) to choose from. Before making your selection you can ask for a sample of your flavor of choice. Inside there are chairs and tables to sit at, with it rarely getting too crowded. Service isn’t an issue since you only need to interact with the staff when you weigh/pay for you selection. Aside from the fro-yo you could also order a smoothie which they do blend for you (we have yet to try this). Nutrition facts, along with flavors and toppings are listed on the website. Overall the frozen yogurt is smooth with just the right hint of sweetness and makes for a great way to reward yourself on a warm sunny day.
