Oia-WHITE
Soak Up the Stunning White Architecture of Santorini
While the Greek mainland is definitely worth a visit, nothing can compare to the environment on the Greek Islands. Each one has a slightly different culture and look, and Santorini is largely regarded as the most picturesque. It is characterised by the bright white architecture of the coast and the way that the buildings are constructed on steep hills that look down on the sea. Due to the romantic feel of the island, Santorini is perfect for weddings and honeymoons. While you’re visiting, be sure not to miss the steep walkways leading to the quintessential town of Fira and its impressive Archaeological Museum.

Explore the History and Heritage of Athens
It is almost impossible to travel to Greece and not visit a historical landmark of some kind, but there is no question that Athens is the epicentre of Greece’s history and heritage. The highlight of a trip to Athens would undoubtedly be the Acropolis, the ancient city perched atop the sprawling modern Athens. Within the Acropolis, you will uncover the Parthenon, which is more than 2,500 years old and was built to honour the goddess Athena. In addition, the Acropolis is home to the Theatre of Dionysus, the New Acropolis Museum, the Propylaea, and the Temple of Athena Nike. You can further explore Athens’ history by visiting the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the National Archaeological Museum.

Go Wild Thanks to the Nightlife at Chersonissos
During the summer, party animals know that there is just one place in Greece to see and be seen, and that destination is Chersonissos, a bustling city on the island of Crete. While it is quiet for most the year, June brings with it young people from around the world who want to enjoy the beaches, the nightlife and the youthful culture. For international DJs, cheap holiday packages and some of the most thrilling clubs in Europe, Chersonissos is the place to be in Greece.

Enjoy the Beaches of Corfu
The island of Corfu has a rich heritage thanks to colonisation by the British and the Italians in the past. Today, however, it is a playground of beaches perfect for visitors who want nothing more than pure relaxation, breathtaking scenery and a warm climate. Sidari is a typical resort beach on Corfu that boasts a number of cafes, shops and lounge chairs, and it is within walking distance of many popular tourist-oriented hotels. The beach of Chalikounas, on the other hand, is typically empty and makes the ideal spot for a private picnic and plenty of space to spread out on the warm sand. A fabulous place to visit is the small fishing village of Benitses, which was once the only tourist resort on the island. Today, however, Benitses is back to its roots as a quiet destination full of local anglers.

Admire the Hilltop Monasteries of Meteora
For a chance to see a quieter and more scenic side of Greece, head inland to an area called Thessaly. This is where you will find Meteora, a collection of twenty-four monasteries built into the hilltops in a dramatic and truly beautiful fashion. You can climb to some of the still operational monasteries, or take in the breathtaking beauty of these isolated structures that jut out from the ground.

Whether you are interested in nightlife, beaches, natural scenery, history or architecture, Greece offers a little of everything for travellers. If you are planning a trip there, be sure to enjoy peace of mind by comparing travel insurance quotes. Covering everything from medical emergencies to lost luggage, proper travel coverage can make your getaway to Greece even better that you might have dreamt.

  2. Honestly, it was not until relatively recently Greece came up on my list of places I wanted to visit.
Sure, there’s the history, the food… but I’ve known many Greeks and they’ve spoken of the “attitude” of natives, and it’s always been a turn off.
Then, I started to really look – the amazing cities, the beaches, the culture and a Mediterranean Lifestyle.
    I can’t wait to go!

  3. My boyfriend and I are spending two weeks in Greece next Summer, I’m just wondering how easy it is to navigate yourselves around each of the islands. We have been advised by our travel agency to book a busabout island hopper where they organise ferries for $100 a pop. Is this suggested, or is it easier to have more flexibility and do it yourself as we’d like to get to some of the islands you have mentioned above and these are not included in this other hopper.
    Thank you!
