September was our first month of “travel” and we weren’t sure how blogging was going to be on the road. On the one hand we were excited to actually have something interesting to talk about. On the other hand, we had no idea how often we’d be able to keep in touch and if we’d have the same amount of time to promote our website. Maybe, we thought, we’d actually do worse than the previous month?
Actually we had a really big month – I guess we weren’t the only people waiting for us to get going.
Social Media: Honestly, we didn’t do anything special for social media this month (and it shows) but next month I want us to really concentrate on Google Plus. I think this is going to be “the next big thing”. Not necessarily that people want to use it, but that Google is going to very slowly link your presence on Google Plus to how high you appear in the search engines. So, we’re going to work on publishing more content on that (since it can’t be done automatically like Facebook or Twitter). Please add us on Google Plus if you have a profile!
Traffic: We shattered last month with some heavy traffic days in September and just an all around increase. One thing that helped a bit was submitting our food photos to food sharing websites. We know about these from Vicky’s food blog, and if you can get a picture of some food you took on Foodgawker or Tastespotting and can drive significant traffic to your blog. Some of them require the post to be an actual recipe (I think Foodgawker now does), but many don’t!

Advertising: Still getting our feet wet here but a bit warmer than last month. We’re trying to work different angles as well in terms of getting trips and/or stays in exchange for reviews, which is something we have been doing on our website for awhile (but nothing in exchange). We don’t actively reach out to people for anything yet, so everything is just who happens to find us on the web and if we think it’s a good deal or not.
